months before starting treatment. Our previous study of the general public's knowledge of diabetes showed that fewer than one in 20 could name the combination of thirst and polyuria as symptoms, suggesting that poor levels of public health education for symptoms related to diabetes may have been an important cause of late presentation.5 Furthermore, earlier treatment might have been started in a third of our patients in whom the diagnosis either was made but not acted on or was overlooked. The results of this audit emphasise not only the need to raise awareness of diabetes among health professionals but also to increase the knowledge of major symptoms of diabetes by health promotion among the general public.

The Assessment of Feto-Maternal Hemorrhage in an Artificial Model Using Anti-D and Anti-Fetal Hemoglobin Antibody by Flow Cytometry
Background: When fetal red cells enter the maternal circulation from placenta, an event would be happened that is described as feto-maternal hemorrhage (FMH). This life-threatening condition could be detected by using RBC antigens (surface antigens and intracellular antigens). Therefore, the measurement of fetal RBC in an artificial model would be useful to calculate FMH and consequently the do...
متن کاملSevere hydrops in the infant of a Rhesus D-positive mother due to anti-c antibodies diagnosed antenatally: a case report
INTRODUCTION Rhesus haemolytic disease of the newborn is a prototype of maternal isoimmunisation and fetal haemolytic disease. There are other rare blood group antigens capable of causing alloimmunisation and haemolytic disease such as c, C, E, Kell and Duffy. In India, after the confirmation of a newborn's blood group, antibodies are screened only if the mother is Rehsus D-negative negative an...
متن کاملMaternal autoimmune disease and the fetus
The privileged position of the fetus, containing foreign protein that is not rejected by its mother, has intrigued biologists for many years. More recently, it has been realised that certain maternal autoimmune diseases, particularly immune thrombocytopenia, Graves' disease, pemphigoid gestationis (herpes gestationis), myasthenia gravis, and systemic lupus erythematosus may affect the fetus by ...

متن کاملThe fetal and neonatal outcomes of Rhesus D antibody affected pregnancies in Northern Ireland.
It has been suggested that routine antenatal prophylactic anti-D should be introduced for prevention of Rhesus D (RhD) haemolytic disease. Before making changes to the current prevention program it is important, therefore, to have up-to-date data on affected infants. Pregnant women with anti-D antibodies between September 1994 and February 1997 were identified by the Northern Ireland Blood Tran...
